In a recent Deloitte survey, it was revealed that 43% of family offices globally have experienced a cyberattack in the last 12-24 months and nearly 1/3 of these offices do not have a formal cyber response plan. Pandit Professor of Business Decision, Risk, and Operations Division at Columbia Business School • Jason Bevis, AVP/CISO of Arista Networks • Andrew Chin, Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer and a member of Alliance Bernstein's Operating Committee • Fred Heiding, Post doc, Harvard University, Researching AI-Assisted Cybersecurity attacks • Joseph Steinberg (MODERATOR), Cybersecurity expert and Lecturer at Columbia SPS Bios Omar Besbes is the Vikram S. Pandit Professor of Business Decision, Risk, and Operations Division at Columbia Business School. His primary research interests are in the area of data-driven decision-making with a focus on applications in e-commerce, pricing and revenue management, online advertising, operations management and general service systems. His research has been recognized by multiple prizes, including the 2019 Frederick W. Lanchester Prize, the 2017 M&SOM society Young Scholar Prize, the 2013 M&SOM best paper award and the 2012 INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section prize. He serves on the editorial boards of Management Science and Operations Research. He has taught core MBA courses in Operations Management and Business Analytics, an MBA elective on advanced Business Analytics, as well as various Ph.D. seminars on stochastic models, revenue management and data-driven decision-making. He is a recipient of the Dean's award for teaching excellence in the core at Columbia Business School. Omar is a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique (France) and received a M.Sc. from Stanford University in 2000 and a Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2008. Before joining Columbia, he was on the faculty at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Jason Bevis is an AVP/CISO of Arista Networks. He has extensive experience in professional services, cybersecurity MDR solutions, incident response, risk management and automation products. He has worked for top security companies such as Cylance, FireEye-Mandiant, Foundstone-McAfee, and KPMG Consulting. He has over 20 years’ experience and is a veteran of multiple start-ups that have been public. He is a member of the InfoTech Research Group hall of fame, a cybersecurity adviser to Rutgers Certificate program, and has served as a forensics judge at NYU CSAW annual conference on several occasions. Jason brings a unique quality of both in-depth security knowledge and product engineering that enables Awake Labs. Andrew Chin is Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer and a member of Alliance Bernstein's Operating Committee. In this role, he leads the firm’s strategy to leverage AI in transforming the organization and driving better outcomes for clients and the firm. Previously, Chin was the Head of Investment Solutions and Sciences, overseeing the research, management and strategic growth of the firm’s asset-allocation, data science, index and tax-management businesses. From 2022 to 2023, he was the head of Quantitative Research and chief data scientist, developing and optimizing quantitative research and data science infrastructure, capabilities and resources across the organization. As the firm’s chief risk officer from 2009 to 2021, Chin led all aspects of risk management and built a global team to identify, manage and mitigate the various risks across the organization. He has held various leadership roles in quantitative research, risk management and portfolio management in New York and London since joining the firm in 1997. Before joining AB, Chin spent three years as a project manager and business analyst in global investment management at Bankers Trust. He holds a BA in math and computer science, and an MBA in finance from Cornell University. Fred Heiding is a postdoc at Harvard researching computer security and AI security with Eric Rosenbach and Bruce Schneier. His work aims to identify, quantify, and mitigate AI-assisted cyberattacks through technical innovations and policy interventions. Joseph Steinberg serves as a cybersecurity-focused expert witness, board member, and advisor to businesses and governments around the world. He has led organizations within the cybersecurity industry for over 25 years, and has written books ranging from the best-selling Cybersecurity for Dummies to the official study guide from which many CISOs study for certification exams in advanced information security management. Known for offering keen insights and unique perspectives on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and the potential impacts of technological developments on human society, Steinberg amassed millions of readers as a regular columnist for Inc. Magazine and Forbes. Today, his independent column, appropriately titled Joseph Steinberg: Totally Candid, receives millions of monthly views, making it one of the most-read columns focusing on cybersecurity and related matters. Analysts have calculated that he is among the top three cybersecurity influencers worldwide. Steinberg has helped many organizations improve their management of cyber risk, and has assisted attorneys in achieving just compensation for parties wrongly harmed by cyberattacks. His opinions are frequently cited in books, law journals, security publications, and general interest periodicals; his cybersecurity-related inventions appear in over 500 U.S. patent filings. He remains one of only a few dozen people worldwide to hold the suite of advanced information security certifications (CISSP, ISSAP, ISSMP and CSSLP) — indicative of the both deep and broad nature of his cybersecurity expertise and experience. In addition to his primary work, Steinberg serves as a senior policy analyst at the Global Foundation for Cyber Studies and Research think tank, a member of Newsweek’s Expert Forum, a member of the Computer Crime & Digital Evidence Committee of The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and a board member at several business and nonprofit organizations. He previously served on — and was unanimously elected chairman of — a governmental financial advisory board, and served as a member of the Cybersecurity Council at CompTIA (the world’s largest technology trade association and its second-largest related certifying body). Steinberg co-founded and served in multiple capacities (including tenures as CISO, CEO, and chairman of the board) at the cybersecurity firms Green Armor Solutions and SecureMySocial. Earlier, he served in several senior capacities at Whale Communications, which was acquired by Microsoft.
