In My Humble Opinion…
These Are The Most Efficient Days To Take Vacation In 2025
After receiving several requests, I am sharing my vacation planning strategy for 2025.
Assuming that you have off typical American holidays, here are the days that I have calculated as potentially providing the biggest “bang for the buck” when taking off from work in 2025… at least for those of us who enjoy having off for multiple consecutive days AKA “long weekends”…
Using 1 vacation day gives you 4 (or more) days of consecutive time off
If you take vacation on either Friday, January 17th or Tuesday, January 21st you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and the MLK holiday. (Of course, as is true for many subsequent cases as well, you can also take both days off or extend your vacation in one direction to have 5 or more days off.)
• If you take vacation on either Valentine’s Day (Friday, February 14th) or Tuesday, February 18th, you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and the Presidents Day holiday.
• If you take vacation on Friday, June 20th, you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and the Juneteenth holiday.
• If you take vacation on either Thursday, July 3rd, or Monday, July 7th, you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and the July 4th holiday.
• If you take vacation on either Friday, August 29th, or Tuesday, September 2nd, you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and the Labor Day holiday that falls on its earliest possible date this year (Monday, September 1st).
• For those who already take off for Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year) – taking off on September 22nd in addition to the holiday (which is on the 23rd and 24th ) gives you 5 consecutive days off.
• Likewise, for those who take off for Yom Kippur – taking off on October 3rd gives you 4 days off when combined with the weekend and the holiday on the 2nd.
• If you take vacation on either Friday, October 10th, or Tuesday, October 14th, you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and the Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ holiday on the 13th.
• If you take vacation on Monday, November 10th, you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and the Veterans’ Day holiday on the 11th.
• If you take vacation on Friday, November 28th, you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and the Thanksgiving holiday on the 27th.
• If you take vacation on Friday, December 26th, you will have off for 4 consecutive days when combined with the weekend and Christmas.
Using 2 vacation days gives you 5 or more days of consecutive time off
• If you use two vacation days and take off on January 2nd and 3rd, you will have 5 days off in a row (Wednesday, January 1st through Sunday, January 5th) – or even 5 ½ days (if your place of employment closes early on Tuesday, December 31st)
Work smart. Play smart. Enjoy your time off!
